You can even fit sinks into your kitchen island. They can be similar to sinks elsewhere in the kitchen or be designed primarily for the washing of food during meal preparation. A sink and accompanying tap can add a nice decorative feature as well as an extra functional benefit to the island. The sink area of an island can be on the same level as the rest of the surface or alternatively, a little lower, which maintains some separation from what can become a wet and messy area.
Two-tone cabinetry is a big trend. It’s where one color of cabinets (usually white) is paired with another (blues and greens are most popular). You’ll see this trend used on kitchen islands where the island is often turned into a focal point by painting it a contrasting color.
