The majority of kitchen islands feature drawers, drawers, and more drawers. This design choice is a little more expensive than going with cupboards, but the convenience is worth it. You’ll never have to bend down to crawl into the back corner of a cupboard ever again! Click the photos below to see full size images of several kitchen islands we’ve installed that feature plenty of drawers. You’ll notice that some also have space for microwaves, ovens, or fridges.
The materials used in the island’s worktop surface will be dependent on a number of factors. These include whether you want plenty of food preparation space or you prefer more dining surface space, and more choices besides. There are also aesthetic considerations relating to the decor style of the kitchen as a whole and how certain surfaces will look. There are many materials to choose from including granite, quartz, ceramic, wood, glass, stainless steel, and laminate. You can have more than one worktop surface material on any given kitchen island, to suit the different functions of those particular surface areas. Costs of the material can vary significantly however.
