Ah, the kitchen–the heart of the home! More than just a place to cook, it’s where we gather, start our days, connect with each other over a meal or a cup of coffee, share our ups and downs, and celebrate together. The kitchen–more than any other room in your home–contributes to your family’s health and happiness, so designing a space with style and function is essential.
Kitchens typically contain lots of stuff. Not only that, but items concealed behind kitchen cabinets can be oddly shaped and require extra space — think food processors or stand mixers. Finding a home for your appliances while keeping them easily accessible can be tricky.
However, when creating a kitchen there are lots of elements to think about. Is there enough storage? Where will you put the appliances? Have you chosen the correct lighting? Will you proudly display pots and pans, utensils and ovenware, or will you tidily store them all away? But more importantly, what sort of design suits you and your family? We spend 12% of our lives in the kitchen, beaten only by the bedroom, so it’s crucial the kitchen works both practically and aesthetically for our lives.
One of the trends that will stand out in 2019. A feature for any kitchen brought in as a backsplash or a floor tile. Ceramics can add a retro or modern vibe to your kitchen. They are in for 2019, but we cannot guarantee how timeless this trend will be. With the improvements in digital printing technology, we should be seeing more advanced tile patterns in the next few years.
Kitchen design professionals refer to the sink, stove and refrigerator as the kitchen triangle. It’s the area of greatest activity, so designing a kitchen triangle requires careful planning and unobstructed access. Of the three, the sink typically sees the most action, though your triangle should also have easy access to the stove and refrigerator, as well as your countertop workstations.
Have you ever considered a shabby chic kitchen design to enhance the charisma and charm of your home? A wooden table is a great way to include a retro feature that doubles up as extra work space for those late night projects.
